Frequently Asked Questions
Questions, Answered.
Sizing, shipping, leather care and repairs. If what you need is not here, a person on the bench will answer you within one working day.
Orders & Shipping
When will my jacket ship?
Anything in stock leaves the atelier within one working day. Because jackets are made in short runs, a piece occasionally sells through while a run is still on the bench — if that happens you will get a date, not a holding message, and you can cancel at any point before it ships.
How much is delivery?
Complimentary worldwide, both directions, with no minimum. Duties and import taxes are paid by us on delivery to the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU, Canada and Australia. Everywhere else they are collected by the carrier.
How long does it take to arrive?
Two to three working days within the United States and the EU, three to five for the rest of the world. Every order ships tracked and signed for, because a leather jacket left on a doorstep is not a leather jacket for long.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Yes, at any point before it ships. Reply to your confirmation email and it reaches the same people who packed it. Once it is with the carrier, treat it as a return — which costs you nothing.
Do you ship to my country?
We ship to 74 countries. If checkout will not take your address, it is almost always a carrier restriction on the specific postcode rather than the country — write to us and we will usually find a way round it.
Returns & Exchanges
What is your returns window?
Sixty days from delivery, unworn, with the ticket still in the pocket. Sixty rather than the usual thirty because leather needs a fortnight of real wear before you know whether the shoulder is right, and thirty days does not leave room for that.
How do I return something?
Use the label in the box, or request one from your order page. Drop it at any carrier point. Refunds are issued the day the jacket is checked in, and the money is back with your bank inside three to five working days.
Can I exchange for another size?
Yes, and we hold the replacement for you the moment you request it, so a size does not sell out while your first one is in transit. If the size you need is between runs we will tell you the date before you send anything back.
Is anything excluded?
Monogrammed pieces and made-to-measure commissions, since neither can go to anyone else. Both are flagged clearly at checkout. Everything else in the collection is returnable, sale pieces included.
Sizing & Fit
How does Iron Crest sizing run?
True to size across the collection. Every size is cut from its own block rather than graded up from one pattern, so a large is drawn as a large — the shoulder does not simply get wider as the size goes up, it gets redrawn.
What if I am between two sizes?
Size down for biker and tailoring, size up for aviator and bomber. Bikers are meant to sit close and will give about a centimetre through the body in the first month. Shearling will not give at all, so it needs the room from the start.
How should the shoulder sit?
The seam should land on the bone, not past it. This is the one measurement worth getting right, because a shoulder cannot be altered afterwards without recutting the sleeve head — where the body and sleeve length can both be adjusted on our bench for nothing.
Will the leather stretch?
Full-grain lamb and calf relax roughly a half-size through the body and almost nothing through the shoulder. Suede moves a little more. Shearling moves essentially not at all. Buy for the shoulder and let the rest come to you.
Can I get help choosing?
Send your usual size in a jacket you already own and what you did not like about it. That is more useful to us than a chest measurement, and it is answered by someone who has cut the pattern rather than by a chart.
Leather Care
How do I care for full-grain leather?
Less than you think. Hang it on a wide hanger, keep it away from radiators and direct sun, and condition it once a year with a neutral cream. Over-conditioning is far more common than under-conditioning and it softens a jacket into shapelessness.
My jacket got soaked. What now?
Hang it at room temperature and leave it alone. No hairdryer, no radiator, no airing cupboard — heat is what actually ruins wet leather, not the water. Once it is dry it may feel stiff for a day or two, then it comes back.
How do I look after suede?
A brass suede brush, always in one direction, and a rubber block for marks. Proof it once at the start of each season. Suede handles rain far better than its reputation suggests; what it does not handle is being scrubbed while wet.
Can I clean shearling at home?
Brush the pile with a soft brush when it flattens and that is all. Never machine wash and never dry clean on a standard cycle. Once a year a specialist clean is worth it, and we will arrange it through our own cleaner if you would rather not find one.
How do I store a jacket over summer?
Wide hanger, breathable cotton bag, somewhere dark with air. Never plastic — leather needs to breathe and a garment bag with no airflow is how mould starts. Do not condition it before storing; condition it when you take it out.
Repairs & Warranty
What does “repaired for life” actually mean?
Exactly that. Send back anything with our name in it, from any year, and it goes on the repair bench. Zips, linings, cuffs, pockets, whole panels. There is no registration, no window and no receipt required.
What does a repair cost?
Anything that is our fault — a seam, a zip that fails inside its rated life, hardware that pulls — is free, forever. Wear-and-tear repairs are charged at cost for materials and nothing for labour. You will always get a figure before we start.
How long does a repair take?
Two to four weeks depending on the queue and whether a panel has to be cut. Shearling takes longer because matching a pile properly cannot be hurried. You get a photograph of the finished repair before it ships back.
Will you repair a jacket that is not yours?
Often, yes. Write to us with a photograph. If it is something our bench can do properly we will quote for it; if it is not, we will say so and point you at someone who can, rather than take the work and do it badly.
Payment & Security
Which payment methods do you take?
All major cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Klarna in supported markets. Bank transfer is available for commissions above a certain value — ask and we will send details.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes, in three or six parts through Klarna where it is offered. It is interest-free at three, and the terms for six are shown before you commit rather than after.
Are my card details safe?
We never see them. Payment is handled entirely by our processor over an encrypted connection, and nothing card-related is stored on our side at any point.
Nothing here matches that. Try a shorter word, or ask us directly.
